Fueled by the electricity she felt on the dance floor, Gypsy soon moved to the stage. Her distinctly exotic sound weaves San Francisco's classic house sensibilities together with a fresh, disco-funk style that borrows and builds upon world music genres from around the globe. As an accomplished belly dancer and belly dance instructor, Gypsy spreads her passion for this centuries-old art form by incorporating the tradition into her live performances, as well as through teaching belly dance classes that use the practice as a vehicle for promoting health, strength and positive body image among women.
Gypsy has collaborated with premier Bay Area DJs, including Trevor Simpson (Energy 92.7), Homero Espinosa (Yerba Buena Discos) and Ben Tom & Jaswho? (Temple Music Group). In her self-titled EP released in April 2009, Gypsy teams up with radio DJ Trevor Simpson and TMG's own Jaswho? for an aural adventure into the funkier side of the classic San Francisco house sound. If the choices we make in life define us, then it's no secret where Temple Music Group artist Gypsy has set her sights. With tracks "Choose Love" and "Just the Way U R" on her self-titled debut E.P. released in April 2009, Gypsy reveals herself to be an enchanting performer constantly in motion, a singer-songwriter and dancer gifted with an unfailingly upbeat sound made to inspire bodies on the dance floor and the rare sort of positive outlook that simply cannot be contained" or, for that matter, ignored.
A native San Franciscan and veteran of the Bay Area underground house music scene, Gypsy grew up surrounded by music spanning the sonic spectrum, from soulful funk to disco-driven dance tracks and, later, hip-hop and innovative electronica. Armed with an instinctive love for movement and dance that led her to hone her skills under respected hip-hop choreographer Darnell Carroll, among others, Gypsy learned very early on that dance brings people joy, and that joy inspires more dance.
